Vietnam's central bank governor said on Tuesday there was no shortage of gold in the country, suggesting there would be no flood of imports after a ban on importing gold was lifted last week.

'We see no imbalance between domestic gold supply and demand,' Nguyen Van Giau said in comments to parliament broadcast live on television.

The Southeast Asian country imported 279 tonnes of the precious metal in 2005-2008. Exports were banned until 2008, when 37 tonnes was shipped out, and another 57 tonnes has been exported this year.
