Gold futures rose Monday, as a falling dollar and upbeat manufacturing reports from the U.S., Europe and China lifted the appeal of gold as a hedge against inflation.

Gold for April delivery gained $21.20, or 1.9%, at $1,105 an ounce at the New York Mercantile Exchange. The precious metal fell 0.6% last week and lost 1.2% in January.
