Gold climbs as much as $8 an ounce on Globex

Gold futures climbed by as much as $8 an ounce in electronic trading early Monday evening in Asia, as a rise in China's manufacturing activity helped raise demand prospects for the precious metal.
Gold for February delivery climbed to an intraday high of $1,104.60 on Globex by the early evening in Tokyo, then eased back a bit to $1,103.50, trading $7.30 higher.
