Euro slides on sovereign debt fears; Gold new record

Reports that Greece had asked for a debt restructuring – subsequently denied by Athens – have rattled the euro and the continent’s bourses.

Markets were initially proving resilient in adjusting to a tighter monetary environment, with traders betting that the global economy can absorb central banks’ moves to drain excess liquidity.
