Gold miners in South Africa, the world’s third-largest producer of the metal, said they will go on strike if AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. and Gold Fields Ltd. don’t improve substantially on their “final” pay offer.

“We rejected the offer outright” and gave “them an ultimatum until July 21” Lesiba Seshoka, a spokesman for the National Union of Mineworkers, said by phone from Johannesburg today. “If they don’t bring a good offer, then 130,000 members of NUM are going to strike.”
