President Barack Obama declared that creating jobs would be his “number one focus” this year, delivering a rousing inaugural State of the Union address on Wednesday night in which he pledged to right the economy and continue pushing for healthcare and financial sector reform.

The president admitted he and his administration had made mistakes in its first year in office, but vowed that he would not be discouraged by the slow and often bumpy road towards achieving his aims, telling the joint houses of Congress that “I don't quit”.
