Oil, gold and copper rose on Friday as a weaker dollar encouraged investors to edge back into tattered commodities, although caution was still the watchword ahead of key U.S. inflation data.

A broad commodity index looks set to post a modest rise this week after sliding 9 percent last week in the market's biggest rout since December 2008. The 19-commodity Reuters-Jefferies index rose half a percent on Thursday.
