NY Gold Hits Two-Week High As Dollar Falls
5 January 2010 Wall Street Journal
Gold futures soared out of the gate to start 2010, hitting their highest level in more than two weeks Monday on start-of-the-year investment buying and weakness in the U.S. dollar.
Around 10:49 a.m. EST (1549 GMT), lightly traded but nearby January gold rose $26.80 to $1,122 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, while most-active February climbed $26.30 to $1,122.50. February gold peaked at $1,124.60 an ounce, its strongest level since Dec. 17.
