Gold settles lower but trims losses after Greece

Gold settled marginally lower Monday, paring earlier, steeper losses after Moody's Investors Service downgraded Greece's debt ratings.

Gold for August delivery, the most active contract, fell $5.70, or 0.5%, to $1,224.50 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract hit an intraday low of $1,217.50, according to FactSet Research.
