The price of gold fell to a three-month low as improving prospects for the US economy sapped investor sentiment towards the yellow metal.

On the spot market, bullion dropped to an intraday low of $1,322.70 a troy ounce, the lowest since October and a 7.5 per cent retreat from its record nominal high of $1,430.95 in December.
