Gold hardly moves on unexpected PPI increase

After all, the producer-price index was reported to have jumped a greater-than expected 1.8% in November -- nearly double the 1% increase that was the consensus estimate of economists surveyed by MarketWatch.
You'd have thought that gold bullion, the ultimate inflation hedge, would have soared on the news. But instead it fell.
What gives?
