Copper closes at 11-week low, gold rises (GC in Marketwatch)

Gold futures closed higher on Wednesday, while copper dropped nearly 3% as investors retreated from the industrial metal on concerns that Chinese demand is waning as stockpiles build.

“The risk of contagion in the euro zone has clearly not gone away and this is another primary factor supporting gold above the $1,400 (an ounce) and the €1,000 (an ounce) level,” analysts at Goldcore wrote in a note to clients Wednesday.
